PTC joins industry-academe-government partnership for sustainable ocean management

PTC and Far East Carriers joined the University of the Philippines (UP) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on 16 February at the Office of the UP Chancellor, marking the launch of a collaborative initiative to strengthen sustainable fisheries and marine scientific research in Philippine waters.

The agreement supports the implementation of the research program entitled “Collaborative Marine Scientific Research Project on Sustainable Fisheries and Ocean Ecosystem Monitoring in the Philippine Waters and Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone.” Through this partnership, the parties aim to advance science-based resource management, improve ocean data systems, and reinforce long-term environmental stewardship.

Beyond the formal signing, the engagement underscored the Philippines’ position as an archipelagic and maritime nation whose economic resilience is closely linked to the health of its seas. Discussions reflected a shared commitment to expanding collaboration across research and development, maritime education, shipbuilding, marine environmental protection, and applied research initiatives that can support sustainable growth and responsible ocean governance.
