The 2026 graduating class of Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation was reminded that success in today’s rapidly evolving world requires more than technical skills and digital knowledge. It demands integrity, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to learning.

Serving as guest speaker during the commencement exercises, Capt. Ronald SJ Enrile, PTC Senior Adviser for the Shipping Cluster and Executive Director of RSE Foundation, delivered a heartfelt and inspiring message centered on the theme, “Values Driven Workforce, Digitally Inclined Lifelong Learners.” Drawing from decades of maritime leadership and industry experience, Capt. Enrile challenged the graduates to anchor themselves in values while embracing the opportunities and realities of an increasingly technology-driven future.

“Skills can get you hired. Values determine how far you go,” Capt. Enrile shared, emphasizing that while digital competence and innovation are essential in modern industries, character and integrity remain the true foundation of lasting success. Using the maritime profession as a powerful metaphor, he reminded the graduates that technology alone cannot navigate life’s uncertainties. “When the sea turns rough, it is not the technology that holds the line. It is discipline. It is integrity. It is trust in your crew,” he said.

Capt. Enrile also highlighted the importance of adaptability and continuous growth as graduates prepare to enter a competitive and constantly changing global workforce. He encourages them to maximize technology responsibly while remaining grounded in sound judgment and ethical leadership.

“Technology changes fast. Principles do not,” he emphasized. “Learn the tools. Master them. Stay updated. But never let technology replace wisdom.” He also touched on the realities faced by today’s professionals, including the pressures and uncertainties happening around the world. Graduates were reminded that resilience, patience, and the willingness to keep learning will help them overcome future challenges both at sea and onshore.

Capt. Enrile likewise highlighted the vital role Filipino seafarers continue to play in keeping the global economy moving. He emphasized that behind every product delivered, every supply chain maintained, and every nation connected across oceans are dedicated maritime professionals whose sacrifices often go unseen. He said companies like Philippine Transmarine Carriers, Inc. (PTC) remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting and empowering seafarers through career development, training, and opportunities that prepare them for the demands of the modern maritime industry. As one of the country’s leading maritime organizations, PTC continues to champion the welfare, growth, and global competitiveness of Filipino seafarers who play a critical role in “moving the world.”

In Capt. Enrile’s speech he also recognized the sacrifices of parents, faculty members, and loved ones whose unwavering support helped the graduates reach this milestone. Moving forward, Capt. Enrile hopes that he was able to inspire the graduates of Mariners to navigate both opportunities and challenges of the modern world while carrying forward the proud tradition of Filipino seafarers serving at the forefront of global trade.
