On January 16, 2026, the Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation of Legazpi City—one of the valued partner schools of the PTC Talent Acquisition Group (PTC TAG)—convened key maritime stakeholders at the Innovate Mariners’ Academic–Industry Linkage Forum (I-MAIL 2026), held at the Manila Yacht Club. The forum aimed to strengthen collaboration between Maritime Education Institutions (MEIs) and the shipping industry, reinforcing the shared responsibility of preparing future-ready maritime professionals.

Capt. Ronald Enrile, Senior Adviser for the PTC Shipping Cluster, delivered a compelling keynote address that provided an in-depth perspective on the current landscape and future direction of the global maritime industry. He underscored the Philippines’ enduring role in international shipping, noting that as an archipelagic nation with a rich maritime heritage, the country remains a vital source of highly skilled seafarers supporting global trade and shipping operations.

In his address, Capt. Enrile presented a comprehensive overview of the maritime labor market, discussing both the challenges confronting the industry and the opportunities emerging from global developments. He highlighted the increasing demands of international shipping, the pace of technological change, and the need for innovation and adaptability in an ever-evolving global environment.

Despite these challenges, Capt. Enrile expressed strong optimism about the industry’s growth potential. He emphasized the critical importance of sustained investment in maritime education and training, stressing the need to continuously equip Filipino seafarers with modern competencies and globally competitive skills. He further highlighted the value of deeper collaboration between MEIs and industry partners to ensure that training programs and curricula remain relevant, future-ready, and aligned with international standards.

Capt. Enrile reiterated that through strategic enhancements and long-term partnerships, the Philippines can further strengthen its leadership in global maritime operations. By fostering innovation and upholding high-quality standards, the country’s maritime sector can remain resilient, agile, and competitive amid global shifts.
